The following courses are designed for young people
between 14 and 18 years old who would like to become a filmmaker, writer,
producer, director, editor, cinematographer, sound engineer, editor, broadcast technician,
on-air talent, or actor. Whether students are taking evening or weekend course,
students will be able to try your hand at a variety of different roles.
Industry professionals will teach students how to
write script, use a camera, direct actors, and edit on
computers.
Young Digital Filmmakers Workshop
During this workshop students will
learn how to make
a video project using digital video equipment.
Students will learn how to operate digital video camera, set up a shot, light a scene,
and direct actors from the Young Actors
Workshop and shoot a dramatic scene. Students will learn how to read and break down a script,
and share crew responsibilities as they work as a Producer, Director, Assistant
Director, DP, Production Manager, Camera
Operator and Assistant, Grip, Gaffer, Best Boy, Sound Recorder, and Editor.
Students will also learn basic digital video editing on Final Cut Pro as they follow
a small project from beginning to end.
Young Digital Video Journalist Workshop
This workshop will enable students with no video
experience to create their own news or feature stories using the new Mini-DV
technology. The course
covers how to conceive a story, do research, write a script, shoot with digital
video camera, use microphones, and edit a 2-minute news or feature segment.
Students are encouraged to bring their own consumer mini-DV cameras and learn
camera controls and movements, composition, and exposure. Students will also learn
how to do basic digital video editing on Final Cut Pro or Avid Xpress.
Dramatic Screenplay Writing
This workshop will introduce students to the
process and structure necessary to develop story idea into a screenplay.
The instructor will teach students how to write idea, premise, synopsis,
treatment, character development, plot outline, three act structure, and first
draft of short screenplay. Students
are encouraged to bring an idea or two to class.
The course involves lectures on structure, story conferences, readings,
and in-depth critiques of each student's work.
Each student's story and script is analyzed and commented on by
instructors and fellow students.
Producing for Television
This is course is for students who want to become
television producers. Students
will learn how to research, write, and produce compelling news/feature
stories for local television stations.
The expert faculty takes
students through the entire production from idea, synopsis, research,
script writing, selection of guests, interview techniques, budget,
scheduling, and interview techniques.
Digital Editing
This editing course is designed for students who want
to acquire all the skill necessary skills to work on the latest version of Avid
Xpress DV or Final Cut Pro. Students,
will edit professionally shot scenes, gaining invaluable experience through
in-depth exploration of story structure, style, and content.
Students learn basic setup, adjusting and customizing preferences
and settings, how to download DV footage and other
sources via Firewire into the computer, how to log and capture, assemble, cut,
dissolve, trim, fine-cut audio/video, create titles, and export their finished
product back to videotape.
Young Film Actors’ Workshop
The acting course is
for students who want to learn how to act before the camera in video and film
projects. The course presents an
overview of acting techniques any young film actor will need to work
professionally. Students will
practice film acting during exercises, scenes, and monologues.
You will learn camera blocking and hitting the mark, sense memory,
moment-to-moment acting, externalization of subtext, techniques for character
development, scene breakdown, physical and emotional continuity, and how to
embrace and play-to-camera as the film crew master shot, medium, and close-up.
Make-up
The make-up course is for students who want to
know practical application, working relationships, techniques and protocols
necessary to be a successful makeup artist on movies, television shows,
commercials, music videos, and corporate shoots.
Students will also learn continuity, sanitation, working with talent, the
professional kit, character believability, script breakdowns, lighting and color
relationships, production paperwork, and basic aging techniques.
Students Makeup Artists will interact with Directors, Actors, and
Director of Photography in order to fulfill the requirements for various
characters “looks.” |
